Castle Bezděz [ Castle or ruin of castle ]
The Gothic royal castle of Přemysl Otakar II, built between 1260 - 1280 on the clinkstone heights of Great Bezděz.
After the demise of the Přemyslids, the castle passed through the hands of various owners.
Ferdinand II gave the castle to the Benedictines of Montserrat in 1636; Josef II closed the monastery in 1785. Interest in the castle revived in the 19th century, when it was repaired and opened up.
The galleried castle chapel is a unique example of Gothic construction in this country.
