The idea of building a new spa, the today’s Klimkovice Sanatoria, emerged during the planning of the expansion of mining activity into the area of old Darkov, the original iodine spa, founded around 1870, and the interception of rich deposits of iodine-bromine water in the area of Polanka nad Odrou. Although old Darkov was eventually not undermined and the original spa worked on, a new area of spa buildings was built on a "greenfield site" nearby Klimkovice. The Sanatoria also offer full participation in sport, social and cultural activities.
