East of Prague
The district Prague-east is a suburban region of the capital of the Czech Republic Prague. It offers to its visitors plenty of attractive places rich in historical sights, possibilities of convenient recreation, boarding and accomodation and first-rate sport faulities. In fertive Polabska nizina there is found a twin town Brandys - Stara Boleslav with rich history. A very important event was, founding the parish church in Stara Boleslav in 1052. It´s the oldest parish church in Bohemia. The witness of founding Brandys is the tower of Brandys castle which was rebuilt in the 16th century in chateau. Undoubtedly, the best known place in St. Boleslav is St. Wenceslas basilica, where prince Wenceslas was probably murdered in 929. The most characteristic sign in the St. Mary´s Square is the cathedral of "Nanebevzeti Panny Marie", built at the beginning of the 17th. Century. In 1680 to called "Saint Path" was built from Prague to Boleslav - a chain of small chapels.
In the Masaryk´s Square in Brandys, in so called Arnoldian Mansion, which houses the regional museum of Prague - East, there is placed the exhibition called "The Brandys' Region in the Changes of Time". Another exhibition "The Picture of History in Archaelogical & Historical Resources" is placed in the Staroboleslavska Gate in Stara Boleslav. Recreational area "Probostska Lakes" offers beautiful bathing, windsurfing, you can find a restaurand here, a parking site and a camp.In the North-east part of the district there is found the town of Celakovice - a place that has been occupied since the Stone Age.
A small Castle "Na Hradku", which how houses the Town Museum, was built about 1300. The town of Lazne (Bath) Tousen is found near the confluence of Labe and Jizera rivers. You can enjoy mud bath here and a collonade built in cubistic style in 1912. Czech king and Roman Emperor Charles IV. was working on his curricullum Vita Caroli here.
Beyond the east horder of Prague, there is found the town of Uvaly. Here you can accomodate in hotel Sokol with its pleasant and quilt environment in the Arnost´s from Pardubice Square. It is possible to use attracting municipal swimming pool. In the north from the railway to Prague, you can find the Natural Preserved Area Klanovicky forest with importan oak grouth. The Town of Ricany, 1250 years old, is found near large areas of forests in the South-east border of Prague. From the square you can walk to the ruins of early gothic castle from the 13th century, founded by Ondrej z Rican. The castle was destroyed by Zizka in 1420 but never repared. The Town Museum of Mudrunka celebrates its 90th birthday in 1998. There are also two municipial pools - Mavranek a Jurecek - on the edge of Ricany.
Not far from the motorway to Brno you can find Hrusice, a village in which famous painter J. Lada was born. His memorial houses an exposition concerning his life and work.There are Lensedly not far from Hrusice, a cultural preserved area with a bellfry and rural houses. The South part of the district with its beautiful valleys.
Ruins of the castle of Zlenice are more important - they are found on a cliff above the right shore of river Sazava. It beconged to the house of Duba. In the South, rolling part of the district Prague-east you can find an observatory on the top of Zalov hill, above the village of Ondrejov. It was founded by J. Fric and it contains a huge telescope. Two domes of the observatory house a museum of astronomy.
A cyclist international route from Prague to Vienna leads through village Kamenice, which is not far from Velké Popovice where F. Ringhoffer founded a brewery in 1874. Its talisman is a black goat - and it is really kept within the brewery. By lovers of natural sceneries should visit the national natural preserved area Vetrusicke rokle with straight rocks and steppe vegetation. The village of Maslovice is nearby. The first written notice about it comes from 1052. A new museum of butter making "Male maslovicke muzeum masla" was opened there in 1997.
In Odolena Voda there is a jewel in baroque art - the church of St. Kliment built in 1734-37 according to K. I. Dienzenhofer´s plans. The Castle of Jenstejn built in the half of the 14th century is only 5 Kms away from Prague. In its gothic tower there is an exhibition concerving the history of the castle. The castle palace houses the exhibitions lawed "Archaeology in Jenštejn nearby" and "Aircraft archaeology" there is a view of Rip and Bezdez from the tower.
