The Fortress Terezín [ Fortifications, fortress or bunker ]
The orginal fortress at Terezín was established in 1780 by Emperor Josef II to prevent the passage of enemy armies from the north.
It is comprised of three parts: the Lesser Fortress, the main fortress, and the fortified area between them. During the First World War, the Lesser Fortress served as a prison, and during the Second World War ill-fatedly for detention by the Prague gestapo.
