Stop no. 14 - Straník village, Palacký nature trails

. Straník spreads out in the valley of the Stranický potok stream on the southern slopes of Strážnice and Stranický kopec hill. It was established at the beginning of 13th century on an eradicated wooded land. In written sources from 1408-1412 we learn about Lítek or Lídek from Straník and his spouse Zdeňka, who are remembered in the last will of Jan from Kravaře (1733).

Straník used to belong to the Lordship of Starý Jičín. The village was assigned to the Catholic parish of Starý Jičín, the confessionists of the Moravian-evangelic Church after the tolerance to the Ministry in Hodslavice. Children used to attend the school in Hostašovice until 1867. First school building wasn't built up in Straník till 1873. The ihnabitants lived upon agriculture and cattle breeding. Lots of small farmers devoted themselves to crafts - mainly masonry and carpentry, many of them used to go to Nový Jičín to earn money. The village has been proclaimed the part of Nový Jičín in 1.1.1979.

It is in Straník where we leave the red-marked tourist path which leads further to Hodslavice. We will now walk a field path along the slope of the Straník hill to Hostašovice.
