Moravian Wallachia [ Region ]
In the north-east area of the Czech Republic there are the mountain ranges of Moravskoslezské Beskydy and Vsetín Hills. This region, named Moravian Wallachia after sheep shepherds (Wallachians), was settled in the 12th century. By a merger of the culture of the mountain shepherds and of the peasants, who had settled in the valleys, a very original culture developed; impressive folk architecture of the wooden buildings and a powerful folklore tradition have been preserved up to the present day.
